The Claims Officer forms part of the Claims department which coordinates and manages the Claims process. The key duties of the Claims officer entail obtaining and processing information from the insured for the purpose of settling general property & casualty claims in an efficient and timely manner.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Customer Service
– Assists customers with reporting, filing and settlement of claims;
– Assists Agents and Brokers with claims settlement;
– Advises customers of claims settlement procedures and progress;
– Provides advice, guidance and information in response to requests/enquiries from customers.
General Administration and claims related services
– Ensures that all supporting/supplemental claims documents have been received including liaising with external parties as necessary;
– Responsible for ensuring that all claims are entered into the system and claims processing procedures are followed in an efficient and timely manner;
– Follows up on the progress of all assigned claims;
– Responsible for following the claims process through to settlement;
– Follows up on subrogation claims.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
– A tertiary level qualification in a related field is required;
– Three years’ experience in a similar role would be an asset;
– Effective oral and written English communication skills is a must;
– Must possess good report writing skills;
– Must possess a high level of accuracy to detail;
– Must be organized and able to work under pressure while remaining tactful, patient and calm;
– Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, must be logical and perceptive;
– Must be empathetic, diplomatic and fair;
– Must be analytical, and possess strong negotiation skills, coupled with good problem-solving skills;
– Strong working knowledge of Microsoft, Word, Excel etc.;
– Fluency in Dutch, French and/or Spanish, would be an asset.
