St. Maarten, February, 7, 2008 Nagico Insurance's most recent sponsorship once again shows the company's commitment to supporting educational programs locally. NAGICO Marketing Manager, Jasmine Payne recently handed over a NAF 1500.00 cheque to Milton Peters College, making it possible for the students who will be participating in the Mathematics A-Lympiad annual competition to attend.

The four students representing St. Maarten this year, Frank van Es, Miquel Karijopawiro, Robin Euson and Milagro Elstak, will have some big shoes to fill with previous student representative from St. Maarten coming in 2nd, 3rd and even winning the entire competition 2 years ago. Accompanying the students will be their coach and math teacher, Mr. Blankendal.

The Mathematics A-Lympiad competition is a  real world mathematics competition with open ended assignments which runs for two consecutive days. The competition provides assignments that are opened ended, allowing for multiple answers. It is usually the team that gives the best argument for the procedure it had chosen, wins. The Mathematics A-Lympiad actually started in 1987 with only a few schools. Currently the number of schools participating in the competition include 110 Dutch and 45 Danish schools, as well as several schools from Germany with Aruba and St.Maarten having one representative each.
