THE SAINTS DEFEAT THE WARRIORS AT THE 2008 NAGICO BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
St. Maarten April 10, 2008The 2008 Nagico Basketball Tournament saw two highly ranked Warrior teams "come out to play" on Wednesday evening. The first match was a B division game between B division Warriors and War Yard. The two teams were very evenly matched but the Warriors seemed to have the extra edge down the stretch. The final result was a 54 - 52 win for the Warriors (B) in what turned out to be a very close game.
The division A game had a team by the same name competing. It was also relatively close with the highly rated A division Warriors losing 79 -84 against the Middle Region Saints. The Saints surprised many with early dominance and actually was in the lead by the end of the first half. Even though Vanony "Choco" Frankie, who ended the game with 36 points and 4 steals had a very good game, it just wasn't enough to surpass the divine team play of the Saints.
The Saints' offensive game seemed to be fueled by several players but was directed by one, Gerald Auguiste. Auguiste brought his presence on the court into play by having shooting 100 % from behind the 3 point line, ending the game with 12 points. Other players of note for the Saints were Alston Brown who had 17 points and Terry Debegen who was scoring leader for the team with 21 points. Substitute Orlando Myers who ended the game with four (4) assists was also influential when he was on the court. A shooting percentage of 53% put the Saints in a winning position compared to the 46 % shooting average by the Warriors.
