Anguilla Completes Seven Wickets Win Over USVI.

A five-wicket haul from Chesney Hughes carried Anguilla to a well deserve seven wicket win over USVI in final round action in the 2008 LICA NAGICO Sponsored One Day Cricket competition played at Warner Park.
The win has taken Anguilla to ten points with five victories and two defeats while USVI ended the tournament with zero points after losing all of their games.
After winning the toss USVI batted first and made 127 all out in 40.2 overs with the dashing sixteen year old Doyle Jones continuing with his impressive run of the tournament with a top score of 38 which consisted of four fours from 87 deliveries in 115 minutes. Adding valuable support was Alderman Lesmond with 39 from 57 deliveries with three fours and one six.
Doing the damage for Anguilla was left arm spinner who ripped through the USVI batting claiming five wickets for 18 runs from 7.2 overs with one maiden. Fast bowling sensation Simba Bowen took two for 24 from his eight overs while another left arm spinner, Leonard Yannick had two for 14 from five overs.
Set a low score of 128 for victory the Anguillans quickly got to work dispatching balls all over the field. They made good use of the twos and threes thus being able to force a victory before the rains finally came.
In the end, Anguilla made 129 for three from just 23.4 overs to capture the game via a seven wickets victory. Leading the assault was Jahmal Hamilton with 37 from 45 deliveries that he faced which consisted of six fours. Joining him with valuable support was Lyndell Richardson who made 30 from just 23 deliveries which included five fours.
Montscin Hodge saw his team safely home when he made a well played 35 not out which included five fours. Taking a wicket apiece was Calvin Lewis with eight overs 23 runs, Samuel Jones \35 from five overs and Clifford Mario Fannis with 13 runs from 2.4 overs.
The win now means that Anguilla will play St Kitts in the second semifinal slated for Saturday with the winner facing the winner of the Antigua vs. Montserrat match on Sunday. The winner will take hoe $5,000.00 EC.
